The load capacity of a semi-trailer
Date:2024-03-18 Browse:97

This article does not consider the impact of traffic regulations and explores the actual load capacity of semi-trailers. Analyze the load-bearing capacity of a semi-trailer from the perspective of the load-bearing capacity of the frame and axle.

Firstly, we have an assumption that the road conditions are good and the driver's driving habits are good. Because in these two aspects, there is a negative phenomenon: Africa. The road conditions in Africa are very poor, and drivers have very bad driving habits. Our Chinese drivers saw a big pit ahead and slowed down to drive over. African drivers, upon seeing a large pit on the road ahead, would be very excited and forcefully push on the accelerator to rush over. This scene is too beautiful for Chinese drivers to imagine. In this case, the instantaneous pressure caused by the large pit on the trailer can be imagined.

Let's first talk about the large frame of the trailer. The design of lightweight trailers in China is quite diverse, with a large number of thick upper and lower wing plates, so it's difficult for us to analyze. And in China, drilling is popular for large beam vertical plates, which will reduce the load-bearing capacity of trailers. As for how much reduction, no one has studied or experimented with it. We can only take the traditional trailer beam with 14 down 16 vertical plates and a thickness of 8mm as an example. This type of trailer is rarely used in China, but it is the mainstream configuration for exports. When we write the specification sheet for this type of car, we usually write a load capacity of 50 tons. According to our investigation and research, the design of this semi-trailer can pull 100 tons without any pressure, and pulling 150 tons is also quite easy.

Some friends may worry about the axle. Let's analyze it. The mainstream in the current market is a 13 ton axle, which means that the carrying capacity of each axle is 13 tons. The axle manufacturer's standard is 13 tons, but in fact, this type of axle has a large bearing capacity three times that of 13 tons, which is 39 tons. Taking a three axle semi-trailer as an example, the combined carrying capacity of the three axles is 117 tons. The pressure carried by the axle of a semi-trailer accounts for approximately 70% of the entire vehicle, while the remaining 30% of the weight is borne by the saddle of the towing vehicle. By this calculation, 117/0.7=167 tons.

Based on the above analysis, it is easy to pull 100 tons of semi trailers with an upper 14 and lower 16 according to export standards. However, if it is the road conditions and driving habits in Africa, 100 tons is relatively difficult, and 50 tons is no problem.

We are simply discussing the actual load-bearing capacity of semi-trailers, rather than encouraging everyone to overload. Overloading can damage the braking effect and significantly increase the risk of traffic accidents, so please comply with local traffic regulations and do not overload.
